Crying Rose |

The Crying Rose is a response to my being dumped by the love of my life. Unfortuantely, the picture did not manage to take the best of quality resolution of the details. One can't see all the detail in the outline of the rose or the background image. The background is that gradation of red to a yellowish-orange and the bottom is a growing black - note the fingerlike extensions of the black reaching further and further upwards. However, behind the white part of the rose is a red heart that has M inside the white outline of the rose. |
Blue Man |

The Blue Man is another response to the breakup. Again, you can't see the finer details like the streams of red flowing 'down' from the eyes like tears. Other than that... you can get the shadowing, which is my favourite feature. I am most impressed with my ability to get the shadowing down, as I am not too good with that aspect of painting. I like this a lot for that reason alone. The colors are significant, but most of the detail is in those eyes, the tears, and the colors of the painting. |
Fog Moon |

Fog Moon is one of the few photos of a series that actually ended up coming out. I stood in a fog-covered field late one night and tried to take photos using the backlight of a parking lot to show through the clouds and highlight and fracture different images. To do that I covered the flash, but on a few I forgot as my camera automatically flashes... however... the few I forgot to 'hide' the flash were the only ones that worked, and this was one of them. The lit object at the top is obviously the moon shining through the fog... it was just kind of an amazing shot... but the accident of letting it flash (I took a second without that didn't work) is the only reason I have this image. |
Shrub in the Fog |

This is a similar photo from the same series. It is a dead shrub (temperatures already in the 30s and 40s) behind a wire fence. The spots in the background are the lights of the aforementioned parking lot that gave the image a more surreal look... kind of like transposing the other photo's light quality but with sharp broken lines of a dead shrub and wire fences. I wish it had turned out better... this was my favourite of the attempted photos. It's just a shame it didn't work... kinda sad. |
Last Night |

Last Night is a drawing that I did in my fall semester while I waited for an hour for my clothes to dry, my mind can remember so vividly every detail about when and where I was when I do a piece. Anyway, the scan did not turn out the image quite so well because I did it in a light pencil and as such the background is miserable... there should be a bed in the background with plastic cups, and then a pile of underwear on the right hand side... none of that is visible here. Furthermore, in the visible spectrum so to speak, the shoulder of her shirt is supposed to be ripped, and mascara is supposed to be running down her face. All because she is just waking up and realizing what must have happened last night. Intended to be an another of my "I hate drinking, so you should too" kind of works... but of course my works and opinions won't change the minds nor attitudes of my friends nor the 40,000 people I go to school with. |
A Handle on the Disporportionate |

Really simply, a sketch of a trashcan before Spanish class with a screwed up handle. And although I haven't looked up the spelling, and as I lacked a dictionary, and the kid next to me was an idiot... I had no idea how to spell (nor do I now know how to spell) disporportionate. That just cracks me up. |
